I understand what you are saying about the numbered lock being very secure.
I guess it comes down to the individuals requirements.
Some couples for example, might go through quite a lot of those plastic locks.

I like both ideas but I must admit Happy H, your idea is simple and ingenious. I, the belted one, also have to be responsible for my own key. I have all the responsibility but none of the power to release myself. I will have to constantly keep the key on my person, hidden, different places, different days, depending upon my clothing and my activities. But the key must always be there in case it is requested. Even if the Keyholder just wants to see I have the key and not to use it. Its the ultimate power for the Keyholder. And he doesn't even have the burden of holding the key himself.....

Perhaps a plastic lock through the key and around part of the belt would do the trick. You should be able to find some place on the belt that won't allow enough movement of the key to go into the lock.

This may be a cheap and simple solution to having the key handy and yet inaccessible.

Boondoggle, I think that's a great idea. In fact it came to me last night too!
But I don't think it will work for me as my key holder doesn't want to have to go and retrieve a key, or find scissors etc so unless he could break the plastic with his teeth, he'd still be frustrated with it!

Nemith,
I like the look of this safe! If I have problems with the combination padlock idea I will try this one.
Heck, maybe I could even put the key and padlock inside this and then the key will be doubly secure

This lock may function as key holder? Although the wearer of the belt know the code, she can not open the lock without being registered which time it was done. No cheating with unauthorized opening of the lock...

That's only 1,000 combinations a motivated girl will be through that in no time.

Ha ha Gotsteel,
If you put the key plus 5 combo padlock inside though, you ll have 1000 combinations, followed by 100 000 !!
That might even beat me. Esp if hub changes the combo everytime he uses the key......

True, but if one puts a tamper evident label over the top, there is an additional disincentive.

A truly secure lock box would probably be too bulky to carry around in a purse or pocket.
