I know I'm not the only person here who had met Hal more than once, and I'm sure others must have heard some of his stories which while rather exciting were perhaps not entirely (or even remotely) accurate.
Hal often claimed that the reason for the long wait for orders was because he was busy with work for orders from the Middle East and Africa, he also claimed to have been a guest of rich people in those countries in relation to his work.
One time he said he was a guest and while being escorted around a large building, they came to a courtyard where a woman was stood upright and still. When they came back the same way some time later, the woman was still there. When Hal asked what she was doing, his host walked over to her, and lifted up her burka to show that there was a pole attached to the ground, the top of which was attached to a vaginal plug, holding her fast.
There was another story about a device they used, he said he'd forgotten the Arabic name for it but that it translated as 'The Book'. What he described sounded sort of like a very robust spreader bar that folded double, there were shackled on it that attached to the woman's ankles, and then when the book was 'opened' it pushed her legs apart and made her keep them there.
Hal also claimed that he had a number of women who he was keyholder for, some who wore collars and some belts.
While it's entirely possible that Hal did sell some orders to other countries, what I heard from Richard and what was also confirmed by his sometime machinist Mike was that the long waits for orders was due to inadequate tooling; the capacity was never there to be inundated with orders from Saudi.
Richard also confirmed that there wasn't a collection of keys that Hal was holding for numerous women... or perhaps we can believe that they got lost and all of the poor women had to get themselves cut out, or are still collared and belted to this day.
Does anyone else have any good stories of Hal's tall tales?

Did he tell anyone else about Corrosive Annie?
Allegedly she had huge problems with his belts because her sweat could corrode stainless.

This disturbs me, because, as I have said elsewhere, I am only as good as my sources, and he was a major source of information -- should that be "information"? -- for me.

Please don't let it disturb you. They were great stories, I just can't reconcile all of them with what I later heard from Richard and the late Kinky Mike.
Maybe he had better tooling early on... I don't know.
Even if not it's still possible he did orders for other countries, perhaps just not on the scale he liked to suggest.

I met and got measured by Richard recently. He is a great talker, lots of stories. Wish I could have spent more time with him and Athena. Unfortunately, I had to catch a flight....

Richard should know more than any, having started as Hal's apprentice. I only met Hal once. He told me he did sell a lot to Middle East, but by no means exclusively. I recall somewhere he did offer a KH service, but am not sure to what extent.

Re: Hal Higginbottim's Tall Tales
I mostly knew Hal towards the end of his life, it's entirely possible he wasn't well enough to do as much work as he had been before and didn't want to come out and say that.
He had my order for a belt for 12 months, towards the end I was ringing up every second week and each time he would tell me he was waiting for something else to arrive. Then one week I got his wife who told me he was in hospital. So I left it a couple of months, then called back, and was told Hal had died.
I have no idea if he had started on my belt at all. Richard seemed to give every indication when he honoured the order that he had made it from scratch.

Well I met him some time before he died. And delays were lengthy then - 11 months for one I'd bespoken. This was also partly due to health problems - having had pneumonia.

Hall told me he had received calls from a number of wives after keys , I assume the keys were for the belt the wife was wearing

Yes he told me that too. And that he always refused to supply any keys except to who'd ordered the beltcmb1 wrote:Hall told me he had received calls from a number of wives after keys , I assume the keys were for the belt the wife was wearing
