What I presented was actually idea #2. My first idea was to create a locking mechanism much like a seat belt - push in the tab and it locks automatically - but I couldn't figure out how to make it lockable just by pushing it together and unlockable only with a key. And, reasonably thin.

Yes - my convenience.

Once in the morning, once in the evening, I unlock my husband from his belt so he may shower, clean the belt, and use the toilet. Afterwards, he puts the belt back on himself and locks it. The problem was the little padlocks were causing wear on his clothing.

When I modified the belt using Pyra's round computer lock idea because it's more of a low-profile shape with rounded edges, no obvious wear occurs to his clothing but I am required to be present to re-lock the belt twice a day.

So with the various prototype belts I've been working on, I've been trying to devise a way where he can lock himself back in without my having to take the key off my neck.

It's not a big deal or anything... I just used to not having to back upstairs to relock him.

But how are you sure he has locked himself rather than left the belt unlocked?

Remember, my husband *wants* to wear the belt and be locked tight, so he'll lock himself in every time without fail.

I do however, for show/psychological purposes, "inspect" the belt 99% of the time when he comes downstairs after showering.

So, have you managed to replace the lock to one with pushbutton or it's a project only?

The experimental belt has two pushbuttons. He can lock it himself, but he doesn't wear it long term because I'm still working out the crotch area.

I modded his regular belt with a round lock, so I have to lock him back in.
