Do you need the key to lock it? That kind of defeats the purpose...

Why is having a key to do up a lock a problem. As long as the belt wearer has a belt locked in place and the key is in another place, may be locked in a time safe so that it cannot be reached before a set period of time has elapsed. The belt wearer may have handed the key to a trustworthy friend [Or Master or Mistress]. Locked is locked and the high security barrellocks are very pick resistant.

There's something very much to be said for the standard style lock.

It can be easily done up (even inadvertently) by the wearer alone without the need for the key, where once it's snapped shut, it's shut. Then there's also the sound of that snap.

The tollyboy style lock is great once it's on, but a tollyboy style that could be sealed on it's own with a snap form a little pressure, now that would be ideal.

It can be solved!
Fix a locked box where the key can be put in, but not taken up without first opened.

But I agree with you Mac, the sound of a lock that snapped shut is nice.
